Surabaya-Jajan Klepon saat ini jadi pembicaraan di media sosial karena dianggap tidak Islami oleh segelintir oknum. Kue Klepon sudah ada sejak tahun 1950-an diperkenalkan oleh imigran Indonesia ke Belanda.
Jajanan tradisional ini menjadi menu yang ditawarkan di restoran Indonesia-Belanda dan etnis Tionghoa. Kue Klepon ini dihargai sebagai satu di antara warisan budaya yang menjadi simbol atas identitas kolektif suatu daerah.
Klepon adalah lambang kelembutan, ketepatan, kesabaran, keuletan, dan ketelitian. Kue yang berasal dari Pasuruan, Jawa Timur ini juga terdapat di Sumatera, Sulawesi, dan Malaysia dengan nama buah melaka atau onde-onde.
