Tahun Baru Hijriyah, Spiritnya adalah Hijrah. Bagaimana dengan Tahun Jawa?

Kamis ini, 20 Agustus 2020 bertepatan dengan tanggal 1 Muharram 1442 Hijriyah, sekaligus Kamis Pon, 1 Suro 1954 Jawa. Kebanyakan orang memaknai kedua tahun ini sama saja. Padahal jelas-jelas berbeda dari sisi sejarah, maupun asal usulnya. Tahun baru Hijriyah lahir dari tradisi Islam, yang memberi nama tahun dengan sebutan tahun Hijriyah. Sebelumnya umat Islam belum memiliki kalender tetap, sehingga dalam prosesnya muncul nama tahun Hijriyah. Penamaan ini mengambil hijrahnya Nabi Muhammad SAW, sebagai nama tahunnya. Awal tahunnya mengambil bulan Muharram.

Spirit tahuan hijriyah adalah semangat berhijrah, berpindah dari satu lokasi ke lokasi lainnya yang lebih menjanjikan dalam perjalanan dakwah. Ketika itu Nabi Muhammad dan para sahabatnya hijrah dari Makah ke Madinah yang lebih menjanjikan untuk berdakwah. Itu semua atas perintah Allah SWT. Dengan penamaan Hijriyah diharapkan umat Islam membawa semangat lebih baik, dari waktu sebelumnya dan menjadi lebih baik di waktu berikutnya. Demikian terus menerus. Perbaikan akhlak, dituntut menjadi lebih baik seiring berjalannya waktu. Demikianlah spirit tahun baru Hijriyah.

Bagaimana dengan tahun Jawa? Tahun Jawa menggunakan nama Saka, yang sejak awal memang diberi nama demikian. Nama Saka sendiri sebagian menyebut berasal dari nama raja di India. Sebab kalender ini diyakini berasal adri India. Namun ketika Sultan Agung mengeluarkan dekrit membuat kesinambungan kalender Jawa menggunakan basis hitungan bulan (qomariyah), nama Saka tetap dipakai. Meski dalam kalender Jawa sebelumnya perhitungannya berbasis matahari (solar) seperti tahun Masehi.

Masyarakat Jawa lebih mengenal tahun baru Jawa dengan bulan Suronya. Tanggal 1 Suro sebagai awal tahun baru Jawa lebih dikenal daripada nama tahunnya itu sendiri. Oleh karena itu, spirit masyarakat Jawa saya kira lebih menekankan pada pengenalan nama Suro ini. Kata Suro sendiri dapat diartikan keberanian. Setiap manusia pada dasarnya punya keberanian. Modal keberanian inilah yang bisa membuat manusia mampu bertahan dan berjuang dalam kehidupan. Namun demikian, masayrakat Jawa mewanti-wanti agar keberanian ini tidak disalahgunakan, digunakan secara berlebihan atau bahkan tidak pada tempatnya.

Ungkapan Surodiro Jayaningrat Lebur Dening Pangastuti. Keberanian, kekuatan dan kejayaan yang menjadi hal penting dalam hidup manusia harus diwarat, dikendalikan agar terarah. Oleh karena itu perlu dilebur dengan kasih sayang. Spirit melebur keberanian agar tidak menyimpang inilah seharusnya diletakkan dalam memahami perilaku masyarakat Jawa selama bulan Suro, awal tahun baru Jawa.

Masyarakat banyak mensucikan benda-benda pusaka yang merupakan lambang keberanian. Senjata-senjata yang menjadi pusaka, hendaknya dibersihkan dari anasir angkara murka, agar keberanian yang tersimpan dapat diarahkan kepada hal yang lebih baik. Sebagian lagi ada yang tirakat, berpuasa dan sejenisnya. Ini juga harus dipahami sebagai upaya masyarakat Jawa dalam mengendalikan potensi keberanian yang ada dalam dirinya.

Dalam ungkapan Jawa, “wani yo wani, nanging ojo kewanen”, jika dialihbahasakan ke Indonesia, berani ya boleh lah berani, tetapi jangan terlalu berlebihan beraninya. Sebab apa? Keberanian yang berlebihan dapat melupakan diri sendiri, tidak waspada dan ceroboh. Akhirnya bisa merusak diri sendiri dan orang lain. Oleh karena, para leluhur dulu selalu mengingatkan di awal tahun untuk tetap “eling lan waspada”, selalu ingat dan waspada. Jadi spirit tahun baru Jawa adalah merawat keberanian dalam diri agar terarah untuk pencapaian diri yang lebih baik.
